6. Proximity

  • Proximity is the principle of grouping related elements together. This helps to organize the design and makes it easier for the viewer to process the information.

7. Alignment

  • Alignment refers to the arrangement of elements in relation to each other. Proper alignment ensures that every element has a clear visual connection with the others, leading to a cleaner, more organized design.

8. White Space (or Negative Space)

  • White space is the empty area around and between design elements. It helps to reduce visual clutter, making the design feel more open and easier to read.
  • Example: A well-spaced layout in a brochure allows the viewer to focus on the content without feeling overwhelmed.

9. Unity (or Harmony)

  • Unity refers to the cohesion of all design elements, creating a sense of wholeness. When all elements work together cohesively, the design feels unified and complete.
  • Example: A well-designed logo, where the font, icon, and color palette all work together to convey the brand’s identity, is a good example of unity.

10. Scale and Proportion

  • Scale refers to the size of elements in relation to one another, while proportion refers to how parts of the design relate to the whole. Proper use of scale and proportion helps create harmony and visual interest.
  • Example: A large heading in a website design is proportionally more important than the body text.
